The Old Church

After walking and walking, all of a sudden, here was the old church.  The foundations dated back to the Gothic era of art and architecture, but the tower is later.  This is a church for the farming community, that didn't have the gilded styles of the "city" churches.  Its roof was replaced when a bomb damaged the original in WW2.

Dieter was indeed able to get the keys from the caretakers who lived around the corner from the church! 
A very simple church on the inside.  What is interesting is that there were paintings over top of even older paintings ... you might be able to see that on the left side of the picture below.
These are the oldest pictures, done in only 2 colors, located inside the nave. Very simple reflecting that the church members couldn't hire any outside artists to come in to decorate the church.
BTW, the key to get into this church was HUGE!

Deb is was great to catch up with you yesterday. I love technology! This old church has such character. I love the painting. Those canals look amazing too - It must have been a lovely walk. Love ya.
