I think I am too tired to really unpack my emotions from today's trip to the Dachau Concentration Camp. This was the first model work camp set up in 1933 for those who were disloyal to the Nazis ... priests, gypsies, Jews, etc.
Dachau was not set up to be an annihilation camp, but it did have a gas chamber. It was supposedly never used.
Here are some of the initial sights for the day. The sign on the metal gate translates into "work makes free." Sadly, not true. That really is one heavy gate.

just to add to bryan's words. all i can say is that tears were constantly in my eyes and usually running down my check! i have been to many holocaust museums in my life and i grew up hearing first hand stories from surviviors. but to stand in the actual chamber that was designed and built only to kill...to stand within arms reach of the incinerators...to stand were the blood was shed...to see the trees that witnessed all of this...just beyond words. all i can say is God forgive us for all of our sins!!!
