Off to Ulm!

This morning we hopped a Regional Express to the city of Ulm.  Not often visited by tourists, Ulm is a wonderful city.  Birthplace of Albert Einstein, birthplace of the Schroll siblings (founders of the White Rose Society that dared to promote opposition to the Nazis), nestled along the Danube River, and home to the Muenster (the massive Gothic Dom).

Here's the Muenster!  Oh my, I think I have a new favorite church!  This was just awe-inspiring.  Yep, we climbed to the spire.  Its the largest church spire on Earth!

A post or two about this one later.
Our first stop was actually the German Bread Museum.  I kid you not.  Unfortunately, Blogger is posting my images in the reverse order of how I add them ... and its hard to figure out how to draft in reverse to plan for how the pictures get reversed ... understand?!

B&K liked the exhibit where they could practice grinding different grains.  Time to put 'em to work!

Yep, it really is a museum all about bread. What a great stop for a botany prof ... oh yea, they let us in for free when I told them I was a botany professor!
:)

I am inspired by the spire. That gothic church looks awesome. So does the word brotultur mean bread? Were they baking the bread too? Love you guys.

no...brotkultur means "bread culture" or we would say, how bread has played a role in the culture.
