Happy Birthday Bryan...5 hours early!

today was a good day!!! it was another wonderful sunday in which we slept in until we felt like it...and then had a great german breakfast. then bryan opened some gifts....as you can see. "what is that in front of bryan?" you might say. see below.

we spent the morning at the auer dulten market again because it was so nice the other day.

this is bryan's traditional "angel food cake with chocolate chips birthday cake"...that i have made him every year since we started dating a million years ago. all i can say is...i tried!!! the walls snuck some cake mix over to me. germans don't believe in chocolate chips...so i made my own. but of course...this wonderful apartment of ours didn't have an electric mixer. oh wait, i take that back. there is a mixer here...but one of the whippy things didn't work and the other was a bit moody today...so it was useless. well, if you have ever made an angel food cake...you know that being able to beat the heck out of the batter is extremely important. so i tried to do it by hand. i thought that we were doing okay, after all, i am pretty strong. but then how do you set an oven to 350 F when the only markings on the oven are the numbers 1-8? well, i guessed. and apparently...i guessed wrong. i looked at the cake 10 minutes before i should have and it was already a lovely shade of dark brown. and after hanging the cake upside down...well, this is what we got!
nonetheless...there were some non burnt edible pieces that weren't too bad...and yes we ate it anyway!

bryan decided that for his birthday dinner, we would be tourists and go to the hard rock cafe. while we are all enjoying all of the bavarian food...we just didn't want any more sausage, pork, sauerkraut, potatoes, knudeln...and the such.
so for the brendley's it was juicy cheeseburgers for mom and dad and hot dogs for the girls. and a gift for me...i didn't have to cook. turns out that our waiter was from canada and brought bryan and nice ice cream sunday for his birthday! we all enjoyed that!

well, i won't tell you how old bryan is...but i will tell you that next year will be the beginning of another decade for the big guy. you can try to figure out which one! ha!
we miss you all!!!

HAPPY GERMAN BIRTHDAY BRYAN!!
On first glance before reading I thought the angel food cake was chicken - sorry debs!! So you had a nice juicy burger at the Hard Rock, nice. What are those things on the table? Walking sticks? I like all the owls.

I'm with Laura...I thought it was chicken as well! I'm sure it was still tasty. Happy Birthday Bryan. Thanks for the fish photo!

well, you are right...the angel food cake was so messed up that it did look like a chicken. but i did make a break through...i figured out some of the settings for the oven, so maybe the next thing i cook won't be so bad! the poles are hiking sticks. a must for everyone in germany. actually bryan has wanted a pair for years, so he finally got them! and of course...what's a birthday without owls???
