This city was a lot more cosmopolitan than we originally believed. However, our hotel was quite comfortable and gave us a good base of operations for Thursday and Friday morning. One issue we hadn't planned on was the holiday on Friday ... German Reunification Day. We bought bread the day before so that we would have breakfast on Friday AM before we left on the train.
Speaking of trains, we had our first glitch on the train. Friday morning we left Freiburg for Triberg, via Offenburg. When I gave our tickets to the conductor on the Offenburg to Triberg leg, he started jabbering in German and seemed really upset at me. He kept saying we were on the wrong train ... much to the delight of those around us. I finally gave him the old German "doch" in response to his assertion and he threw the tickets back at me without stamping them.
He must have figured we were just the dumb Americans.
Oh well. We got off at Triberg and I talked to the lady at the train office and she explained that going from Offenburg to Triberg was the wrong direction than what was indicated on the Friday return trip. Someone made a mistake at the DB Mobility Center when I ordered the tickets. What fun.
Back to Freiburg ... a really cool system of gutters in the streets, a big cathedral, and some amazing stone work mosaics on the streets.

The mosaics look awesome. I see Kate and Brooke are wearing headbands - those bangs are grown out nice I guess! Love you guys.
