Lutherstadt, the Castle Church

On our way to the castle church, we ran into Mrs Luther and the girls hung out for a while!

We made it to the church and to the door where Dr Luther nailed the 95 theses (in Latin) to the door that hung here.  Napolean's troops took the door for firewood, so the original is gone and these massive bronze door have all 95 engraved in Latin on the metal!

Here I stand, I can do no other!

Luther's grave in the castle church ... on the other side lies his famous friend and co-laborer Philip Melanchthon.  Mrs Luther is buried in another town.

Leaving the church, we needed another good picture of the door.  Sorry, the pics from Debbie's computer weren't loading, so these don't expand.

A view of the tower at the castle church. The opening stanza of "O Mighty Fortress Is Our God" is done as a mosaic right where the tower column meets the upper section with windows.  Obviously it is in German!
