OK, we have to get done with Berlin and move on. There has been so much to talk about ... and since nothing new is going on in cold, cloudy, and rainy Muenchen, it is good to talk about the long trip.
We visited the renowned Pergamon Museum on "Museum Island" in the middle of the Spree River that runs through the center of Berlin. We chose this museum due to the fact that it has massive pieces from the ancient world that are literally right here in Germany to peruse and to explore.
Here is one of the column sets from a market in ancient Greece. Yes, they really are that massive. Click on the picture to get a better size impression in respect to the folks at the bottom!

Here is the gate to the market in the Roman city of Miletus. In the Bible, the Apostle Paul records a visit to Miletus in Acts. The whole entire market gate is here in this room in the museum! Crazy!
Another treasure ... the Ishtar Gate from Babylon. Yep, that Babylon. This gate was built by King Nebuchadnezzar, the dude in the Bible who messes with Daniel and his buddies with things like lions and fiery furnaces ...
And finally, the massive alter from Pergamum, where (perhaps) human sacrifices took place to the Roman mythical Gods. Once whole wing of this alter is rebuilt here in Berlin. This is the reference John made in Revelation to the Church at Pergamum when he writes that he knows "you dwell where Satan's throne is." This alter was renowned in the ancient world for its splendor as well as hated for what happened there ...
One thought ... Deb and I were constantly wondering how all of this stuff from the ancient world "happened" to end up in Germany. Food for thought ...:)
