This is the relatively new national holocaust memorial plaza in Berlin. It is right next to the US Embassy. Speaking of US Embassies, we almost had to go there ...
It turns out that I have been a little lax in carrying my US Passport around Germany ... oh and maybe Europe! First, Austria without it (twice), then we show up in Berlin without them ... and that's a no-no! Thankfully we were still able to check in to our hotel ... and more importantly we were able to leave. Need to be a little more attentive and remember that I am not a EU National!
:)
OK, the view from the US Embassy side of the street.
What are those things, you ask. They are called "steles" and there are over 2700 of them in this plaza. No symbolism. None. It's a new German idea. Make up your own symbol.Heck, you have to find your way to the museum site, which is underground.

The steles are all varying heights.

One interesting note from the underground museum ... in every country in Europe, the similarity from the records was "they came for us and they took us."Never again, at least not without a fight!
