Salt Mines

On Wednesday, after an intensive 3-hour German course, we hopped the vans to the Salzwerk (salt mines).  There are actually two that operate, one in Austria and one in Germany.  According to the local Germans, the Austrian one is MUCH better (and cheaper)!

This trip was a rousing success.  We arrived at a perfect time, as our giant group of 23 went in to get ready only 10 minutes before the next scheduled tour began!  Tours can hold up to 50 people, but it turned out to be our group and a family of 5 from Italy.  I think we sorta overwhelmed them with our frivolity!

Once we arrived, we donned our white "miner's suits" and took a train deep into the mountain.  Once we got off the train, we walked a long series of corridors to a large room for a movie about the formation of salt deposits.  Then we walked some more and came to the "miner's slides."  One has to straddle the two smooth bars that have  a gap in the middle to protect the miner's (yea, you get it) ...

Kate was (as usual) a little nervous.  Brooke (as usual) was rarin' to go ...

Bottom line ... WHAT A RIDE!  We all loved the slides and were happy when we came to the second slide ... that came AFTER a ride on a boat in the underground brine lake.

I'll post a few series of pics.
