




The tides in Cuxhaven are really wild. At low tide the ocean literally goes out something like 5 miles and people go walk in the ocean. There are these horse-drawn wagons that carry folks out to the "State Park" island that is located 3.5 miles out in the North Sea. We gave it a shot. The sand was sticky but easy to walk on ... and we had to watch not to step in the "horse-apples" along the way!

There are also these worms that dig down into the sand and push strings of sand up to the surface. They leave little piles of sand that look like silly string on the surface (or the bottom of the ocean, depending on where the tide is ...).
