Vienna, the city of Emperors!

I don't even know how to do this ... in addition, I can't seem to remember all of the names of all of the places we saw in 6 short hours in Wien!

Wien was magnificent, massive, overwhelming, exciting, and towering ... all at once.

We began at Schloss Schoenbrunn (beautiful fountains).  This is where the Emperors lived outside what was then the city limits.  I will try to post later on this one ... the gardens in the back were simply amazing ... complete with "fake" Roman ruins! Note the Hapsburg yellow color of the palace.  This is the seat of the imperial Austria-Hungary Empire that protected Europe from the Turkish invasions in the 17th century!

Here is downtown Vienna ... one of the largest libraries in the world housed in this building.

Another building whose name escapes me. One historical note ... from the balcony in the center Hitler proclaimed the "anchluss" of Austria (annexation) back into Germany.
The arched portico in the center is where the Emperor (or Empress in the case of Marie Theresa) disembarked to enter the royal residence.  This is the Imperial Palace within the city limits.
This is a huge cathedral whose name escapes me.  It makes use of 5 different styles of architecture and is wonderful to behold.

Deb took this picture in a color swap setting, so the blues and golds aren't quite as vivid as in real life.
