as i sit here at my computer to compose this...i can hear bryan across the room at his computer typing away to update the blog! i see that he has finish one post all ready! he's crazy, i tell you!!! ha!
anyway, while he does his job posting pictures and sharing our adventures...i have decided to just send a little message of "thank you soooooo much" to a bunch of people who have made our experience in germany extremely special.
first we want to thank all the families of our german daughters who have taken us in to be part of their families and have truly loved us.
thank you gerd, gabi and kat for taking us to wuerzburg one of our favorite german cities, for hopping on the trains to visit us in our 'lovely' apartment, for showing us erbach and darmstadt, for taking the girls to the horse show, for taking care of spinner 2 and for opening your beautiful home to us again! you guys are so wonderful!!!
thank you christof, christine, felix and isabelli for teaching us what to do at oktoberfest, for taking my mom, carol and me to paris, for showing us duesseldorf, for letting us experience the swinging swebebahn (i am pretty sure i spelled that wrong), for sharing oma and opa with us, for taking us to haribo..again...and for opening your awesome home to us again! you guys are so amazing!!!
thank you to werner, doris and elena for a great visit! we finally made it there! thank you for making cookies with us...even though we made a complete mess...and for sharing your family's lebkuchen recipe with me! you guys are special to us all!
thank you to birgit's mom and dad, herta and gunther for letting us stop by and for feeding us so well! you also made us feel like family!
thank you to dieter and gabi for inviting us to their home near vienna to share a very special christmas with them. thank you for the great tours of vienna...and all the other little towns with the castles and the churches. how you get the keys from "the farmer", i'll never know. you both have become very dear to us this semester and we have enjoyed all of the dinners we have shared in munich as well.
to all of our german family....please know that we love you all and as we head back to the states, we leave a very big part of our hearts here in deutschland with you all!!! and we look forward to our next visits with you all...whether here or there.
we also want to thank all of our dear american friends who took time out of their lives to hop the pond to visit us!!!
to kim and brian...thanks for being brave and the first to experience life on horscheltstrasse. we had such a great time with you and even though we were all exhausted when it was time for you to head home...we have awesome memories with you guys...and videos to prove it! ha!
to carol edwards...thanks for helping my mom make the journey over here. for your patience with our family and for being willing to do whatever! we hope that you will always treasure the memories you made here!
to dave and christine...thanks for coming even though there wasn't much room at the inn! but at least you weren't in the stable out back...ha! thanks for sharing gluewein and friendship. dave, thanks for suffering on the Sound of Music tour with all us girls!
to lee and sandy...thanks for being willing to cross your fingers and go stand by to get here! thanks for taking the adventures with us and being willing to drink lots of german "goodies" with us!
and thanks to all of the people from "back home" who kept in touch with us and made us feel like you were still "next"door. i know that bryan has a list...but for me...i want to thank laura, birgit and ellen for emailing and webcaming with me so that even though i was 5,000 miles away, i still was able to have "girls night out"!!! thanks for the packages you sent full of goodies from home and your love!
and of course...thanks to my mom...who ventured the furthest away from home ever to come visit us and spend thanksgiving with us. your love and support during this time is the only way we were able to survive being away for so long! your calls and emails helped us to get over our "homesickness" many times. and helping us take care of bills and issues back home was crucial! and if it weren't for you being willing to take care of our two very lazy and messy sons (smokey and elmo), i don't know what we would have done!!! we can never thank you enough!!!
and last but certainly not least, thank you to my own prince charming who stood by my side as we realized this dream together. not only did you do a stupenous (i am sure that isn't right either) job leading this trip (i am very impressed and so proud of you), but you were everything to me in all ways and with out you always by my side, these last 5 months would have...stunk!! (PG version). anytime i said "hey, i have an idea", you made it happen. anytime i said, "hey, i wanna see this place?", you got train tickets. anytime, i was lonely, you held me. sometimes back home, we are ships passing in the night...but this experience has proved to me, yet again, that my life would be empty and incomplete without you. thanks for giving me the best 15 year anniversary gift ever!!! i love you with all my heart!!!
and thank you Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ...for the blessing of this experience! to God be the glory!
